Annual Youth Poster and Video Contests Announced


The theme for the 2017 MATFORCE Youth Poster Contest is Stand With Me, Be Drug Free®. Yavapai County youth ages 5 to 18, are invited to enter the contest. Two grand prize winners and seven category winners will be awarded cash prizes. Winning posters will be used in official MATFORCE materials.

Area youth ages 11 to 18 and college students are invited to let their voices be heard by creating an original short video that makes a positive statement about reducing drug and alcohol abuse. The theme for 2017 is Stand With Me, Be Drug Free®. Cash prizes ranging from $25 to $300 will be awarded in three categories: middle school, high school and college. Entries can be up to two minutes in length and are easily submitted online at

More people died from drug overdoses in 2014, than in any year on record. The majority of drug overdose deaths (more than six out of ten) involve an opioid.

And since 1999, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioid pain relievers and heroin) nearly quadrupled.
