MATFORCE Announces Winners of 2017 Video Contest

MATFORCE is pleased to announce the winners of its 2017 “Stand With Me, Be Drug Free” video contest. Area youth ages 11 to 18 were invited to let their voices be heard by creating an original short video that makes a positive statement about reducing drug and alcohol abuse.

In the middle school category first place was awarded to Jedidiah Okerlund, home-schooled. Second place was awarded to Porsche Hamill and Joseline Estrada from Glassford Hill Middle School in Prescott Valley. Third place was awarded to Carter Gullikson from Granite Mountain School in Prescott.

In the high school category first place was awarded to Lesly Castillo from Bradshaw Mountain High School. Thomas Carabin and Lorenzo Harvey from Mingus Union High School earned second place.

Honorable mention winners include: Mile High Middle School students Micah Peterson and Trenton Gullikson; Yavapai County Youth Council members K'Lynn Busby, Ethan Rosson, Anthony Rios, Tanner McDonald, Jacob Tobin, Luke Tobin, Bastian Hamilton, and Zavier Hamilton.

Pizza Box Topper Youth Art Contest Winners

Youth from throughout Yavapai County spoke out against underage drinking by entering the annual MATFORCE Pizza Box Topper Contest. The theme for the contest was ‘Drinking under the age of 21 is not okay.’ Winning artwork will be displayed on pizza box tops during the week of Spring Break (March 12th – March 18th). Participating pizza vendors, who will be displaying the artwork, are from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, Camp Verde and Sedona.

The contest winners are: Angel Garcia, 5th grade, Big Park Community School, Sedona; Jazmolin Rosas, 7th grade, Clarkdale-Jerome School, Clarkdale; and William Schultz, 12th grade, Camp Verde High School, Camp Verde.
